• This is something one of the most iconic resorts on The Strip was never supposed to do - close. In its 53 years, 7 months and 21 days of operation, I've never seen Caesars Palace empty and quiet.
• It's still unclear when casinos in the state might be allowed to open again. Following the initial reopening phase with Caesars Palace and the Flamingo, the company said Harrah's Las Vegas and the Linq gaming floor will likely follow in the next phase.

Caesars Palace Las Vegas Hotel and Casino is Caesars 'class' property on The Strip. There is a special Seven Stars/Diamond check-in in the Augustus Tower. (See 'Inside Information' for hours of operation.)
Self-parking in an adjacent garage is complimentary, but it's a long walk if you have lots of luggage. Seven Stars cardholders should take advantage of the complimentary valet parking on Flamingo (across from the Bellagio) because, even if you're not near the tower you eventually may be staying in, you're closer to the special Seven Stars/Diamond check-in.
And don't miss the Garden of the Gods pool area (weather permitting).

Hotel guestrooms

The Augustus Tower (which just underwent renovations) and the new Julius Tower (see Insider Tip) are the premier locations, as far as I'm concerned –even though the Octavius Tower is technically the newest, but any of the other towers offer rooms designed with class and elegance.
Unless you're staying in the Augustus, Forum, Julius or Palace Towers, there are no longer coffeemakers in the rooms. [Keurig single-serve coffeemakers currently can be found in the Augustus, Forum, Julius and Palace Towers, but the coffee is not cheap – $13 for four 'K-cups' available from the mini bar/'Refreshment Center' or, sometimes, they are sitting – conveniently! – right next to the brewer. Save your comp dollars and bring your own from home or purchase a 12-pack for less than $20 at the Starbucks in the Forum Food Court (see below).]
Refrigerators are sent only upon request and, unless you want to get hit with a $75 charge, don't even think about moving things around in the minibar to make room for your personal items!

The sprawling casino flows from one themed area to another and features all the typical slots and table games one would expect. Complimentary drink service in the casino is relatively frequent; and dealers, slot attendants and servers all are extremely friendly and helpful.

Caesars Palace also boasts a relatively new bar in the enlarged sportsbook, as well as a poker room. The sports bar has a special VIP seating area.

Entertainment

What is a casino marker. The Colosseum, Caesars main showroom, is currently home to a rotating group of performers such as Mariah Carey, Rod Stewart and Shania Twain. Comedians such as Jerry Seinfeld and Chelsea Handler fill in the blanks between musical headliners.

Bars, lounges & nightlife

The former Shadow Bar is now VISTA Cocktail Lounge, a whole new nightlife experience by the Hakkasan Group. Hakkasan operates Omnia Nightclub, arguably, the hottest club in the world right now. Show your Seven Stars card for priority entrance and complimentary admission for up to two people.

Cleopatra's Barge features a variety of entertainment options from DJs and bands to 'headliners' such as Wayne Newton and Paul Shaffer and his Shaf-Shifters.

The largest lounge in the casino is Alto Bar, located in the space formerly occupied by the Seahorse Lounge, across from Omnia, near the Sports Book. Alto has several private booths equipped with personal televisions. In addition the bar has more than 15 televisions and 18 video poker machines. An adjacent private room can accommodate up to 30 guests for dining or meeting.

Montecristo Cigar Bar, adjacent to Old Homestead and across from Nobu Restaurant and Lounge, pairs notable cigar offerings with fine whiskeys, small bites and more in a contemporary 4,000 sq. ft. environment.

Well you don't have to be in the tropics to do this. So don't be bummed when your friends are posting all their island adventures on Instagram. At the end of the day, you're in Vegas. And nothing can top that. Plus, we can all use an extended 'summer' vacation.

Since we're blessed with amazing weather, most pools in Vegas do stay open through mid-October. However, if you choose to take a dip the same weekend you're doing your holiday shopping, there are a few that stay open. Winter may be coming, but these Vegas pools aren't going anywhere.

Many states are likely to have single digit temperatures and snowstorms, so we encourage you to escape and warm up with a pool day in Vegas. That makes sunny 50-70 degree (Fahrenheit) weather sound more enticing, doesn't it? (Cue 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' Carlton dance here.)

So don't be shy. Go on and pack your swimsuit and enjoy these spots all winter long (baring that rare occurrence – snow in Vegas):

Venus OUTDOOR EUROPEAN POOL LOUNGE

Any other time of the year Venus European Pool Lounge is an adult-only, 'top-tional' pool. Don't worry – during the winter months, Venus European Pool Lounge transforms to Caesars Palace's all ages, family-friendly pool. There's also a limited selection of drinks at the bar, so you can still sip poolside in the middle of winter. Contact the pool for cabana rental availability.

The LINQ Hotel & Casino Pool

Perfect for: Fun in the sun – think Spring Break, but during winter.
Open to: 21-and-older crowd (All Caesars Entertainment hotel guests and locals)
Hours: Thursday through Sunday; 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The 21-and-older POOL at The LINQ Hotel & Casino stays lit, even through the winter. What makes it fun is you can still splash around in an inflatable float, challenge your friends to giant Jenga, beer pong and beer pong (oversized beer pong). Also, Virgil's Real BBQ connects to the pool and you can enjoy all your favorite barbecue dishes year round.

The pool's party cabana, The REQ Room, has indoor fun like pool tables, shuffleboard, a foosball table and flat-screen TVs. If you want your own cabana, rentals include bottled water, a flat-screen TV, USB insert to charge your phone, surround sound speakers, lounge chairs and even a beer pong table upon request. If you're renting a cabana, the food and beverage limit is $100 minimum. Daybeds are open seating during the winter months (Yay!).

Ooh, la la! A Parisian-style two-acre pool open year round? Magnifique! Not only is the pool at Paris Las Vegas open during the winter months, it has a spiffy view of the Eiffel Tower replica. And since it's a rooftop pool, you also have the best views on the Las Vegas Strip.

Want to enjoy the water, but not crazy about splashing around outdoors? We don't exactly have indoor pools (who needs t hem with 294 sunny days a year) but you can have a 'pool-like' experience at Caesars Palace's Qua Baths & Spa. The Roman bathing area comes complete with waterfalls in a serene atmosphere. The lounge chairs surrounding the Roman baths make it easy to stay here all day, too.

• Bring a hoodie. Or a kimono. Or even your hotel room robe. We're definitely not on that Alaskan or Midwest type of cold, but our winter (even early springtime) winds are no joke. We wouldn't want you to bring the sniffles back home and regret we ever gave you the crazy idea to swim here.
• Be mindful of shorter days. As much as you want to fly back home and show off your Vegas tan, you'll just be wasting your precious tanning oil if you attempt an afternoon tan. The only thing that'll be getting dark is the sky. And that's your cue to go back inside.
• Take plenty of pictures. The next time you see your friends posting winter photos from Hawaii or Bora Bora, now's your chance to show off your fun times. And since you're in Vegas, we're not just about fun in the sun. This is only the beginning of your day.
